When you have a smaller kitchen, it can be hard to store everything in your cabinets. Items tend to end up on the counters, making your kitchen look disorganized. From coffee supplies to salt and pepper, kitchen counters become home to most of your everyday items. So, how do you organize things to be useful and presentable?

Since my kitchen is smaller, I tend to store more items on my counters. I love to host family and friends, but didn’t want them to see my messy kitchen. I wasn’t going  to keep living that way. I wanted to spruce up the look of my kitchen. Here are some ideas to organize your countertops:

1. Decorative tray: My husband loves to cook, so he likes to keep most of his oils and utensils in arm’s reach. They slowly ended up being arranged in a line, on the back of the counter. Let’s just say I was not the biggest fan of this look. Having a tray on the counter made it easy to compile everything he used on a regular basis in one area. This gives you far more open counter space to work with. This oval tray is large enough to store all of the items, with some extra room for decorations (fake plants!).

2. Utensil holder: I know most people have or have heard of a utensil holder. They are great for holding cooking spoons and spatulas. Finding a nice holder that compliments your kitchen is a great way to keep your kitchen looking nice. This holder comes in a few neutral colors that would be a great addition to place on the tray from above.

3. Fruit/ Veggie bowl: Not all fruits and veggies need to be placed in the fridge, especially if you are using them soon. Having a decorative bowl on the counter can help to consolidate them all. This black metal bowl is the perfect touch of function and beauty.

4. Coffee/Tea Holder: If you are someone who drinks coffee or tea, you need an area to store the coffee grounds or tea bags. With this being an everyday item, placing it on the counter, in a decorative container, is a great way to go. These containers come in multiple sizes, with a sealed lid to keep things fresh.

When you have a small kitchen, there is always a balance between function and style. You can have both by organizing your items, with this in mind. For more home tips click here!
